What is the flea market in Tarkov?
The flea market is Escape from Tarkov's player-to-player marketplace. Instead of selling only to traders at their prices, you can list items for other players to buy, and buy what they list. It's where most players turn raid loot into roubles and find the parts, keys and gear traders don't sell.
It's also one of the most restricted systems in the game. Battlestate Games has repeatedly limited what can be traded, to keep the best gear something you find in raid rather than something you buy.
When does the flea market unlock?
The flea market opens at PMC level 15. Before then, you can only buy from and sell to traders. On a seasonal character the rules can differ: the optional No Flea Market modifier removes it for that character entirely.
Since the 1.0 release, reaching level 15 doesn't open everything at once. Some item categories unlock at higher levels, and high-tier gear and ammunition stay locked for much longer. If an item you want isn't listed, check the flea market's filters: it may simply not be available to your level yet, or not tradable at all.
Levelling up early in a wipe is therefore worth more than it seems. Our Tarkov beginner's guide covers how to survive long enough to get there.
What does found in raid mean?
Items you pick up in a raid and extract with carry found in raid status. Items you buy, from a trader or the flea market, don't.
That matters because many quests ask you to hand in items found in raid. If you sell those items and buy them back later, they won't count. Two habits help:
- Check quest requirements before selling. Your task list shows which items need to be found in raid.
- Keep a small stash of common quest items. Selling them for a few roubles and needing them later is a classic early mistake.
How do buying and selling work?
Buying is simple: search, filter, compare and buy. Some trades are barters, where the seller wants items instead of roubles.
Selling takes more thought:
- Listing fee. Every listing costs a fee, and it grows steeply if you price an item far above its usual value. Patch 1.1.0.0 (August 2026) also raised the base rate. Overpriced listings can cost more in fees than the item is worth.
- Price close to the market. Check what others are asking and list near the lowest sensible price if you want a quick sale.
- Slots are limited. You can only have a certain number of offers up at once, and your flea market rating affects how many.
- Not everything is tradable. Some items are blocked from the flea market entirely and can only be sold to traders.
How do you make roubles with the flea market?
What actually makes money:
- Sell high-value loot rather than vendoring it. Many items are worth much more to players than to traders.
- Sell to traders when the flea price is close. No fee, instant money and no slot used.
- Watch for quest and hideout demand. Items needed for popular quests or hideout upgrades sell quickly, especially early in a wipe.
- Buy your kit, don't loot for it, when time matters. Paying a little more for a ready loadout is often better than spending raids gathering parts.
Which flea market mistakes cost the most?
- Selling found in raid quest items you'll need later.
- Overpricing and paying a heavy fee for an item that doesn't sell.
- Buying gear you can't afford to lose. The flea market makes kit easy to replace only if you have the roubles.
- Ignoring traders. Sometimes they pay nearly as much, with no fee at all.
How does the flea market fit with traders?
Traders and the flea market work together. Traders sell reliable kit at fixed prices once your loyalty level is high enough, and pay a guaranteed price for loot. The flea market fills the gaps. Our guide to Tarkov traders and loyalty levels explains how to unlock better trader stock.
When does help make sense?
If your wipe has bottlenecked on money rather than skill, a roubles boost builds your balance through raid loot and trading, handed over in-game with no account access needed. If you're still below level 15, a leveling boost can get you to the flea market faster.
FAQ
What level does the flea market unlock in Tarkov?
PMC level 15. Since 1.0, some item categories unlock at higher levels after that, and high-tier items stay locked for longer.
Do flea market items count as found in raid?
No. Only items you pick up in a raid and extract with are found in raid. Anything you buy, from a trader or the flea market, isn't.
Why is the flea market fee so high?
The fee grows steeply when you price an item far above its usual value. Price close to what others are asking to keep the fee low.
Can you sell everything on the flea market?
No. Some items are blocked from the flea market and can only be sold to traders.
Is it better to sell to traders or on the flea market?
It depends on the item. High-value items usually sell for more on the flea market, but when the prices are close, traders pay instantly with no fee.
