When did NBA 2K27 Season 2 start?
NBA 2K27 Season 2 started on Friday, October 16, 2026, timed for the start of the real NBA season. 2K's announcement calls it the NBA Tip-Off Season, headlined by Deluxe Edition cover athlete Caitlin Clark and Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton.
The short version of what Season 2 brings:
- GOAT Builds, a new kind of MyPLAYER build that goes past the normal caps, with a Dirk Nowitzki GOAT Build on the Season ladder.
- A remastered Sunset Beach in The City.
- More REP and Crew XP from Crew Divisions.
- A new 40-level ladder for The City and MyTEAM, plus new Pro Pass and Hall of Fame Pass tracks.
- Patch 2.0, which went live on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 8 and on PC and Nintendo Switch 2 ahead of the Season.
2K hasn't published an end date for Season 2. Season 1 ran from August 26 to October 16, about seven weeks, so plan your ladder around a similar window until 2K confirms the date. Our NBA 2K27 season tracker counts down to the end of Season 2 and is updated when 2K confirms the date.
NBA 2K27 Season 2 rewards
2K's Season 2 announcement lists the headline rewards rather than all 40 levels. The tables below combine 2K's list with the full ladder as reported once the Season went live. Where only third-party sources give a reward, it is marked as reported. Check the Season tab in game to confirm.
The City and MyCAREER ladder
You earn Season XP in The City, MyCAREER and MyTEAM, and it all counts toward the same Level 40 target.
| Level | Reward |
|---|---|
| 5 | Boosted REC Armsleeve (5% REP bonus), reported |
| 6 | American Express Accessory (5% REP bonus), reported |
| 7 | Synergy Badge Slot, reported |
| 18 | 4-Person Golf Cart |
| 20 | 'Boomer', the Indiana Pacers mascot outfit |
| 26 | Magic Johnson GOAT Build, reported |
| 33 | Dirk Nowitzki GOAT Build |
| 37 | Kobe Bryant GOAT Build, reported |
| 39 | Clown Costume: Ankle Taker |
| 40 | +1 Cap Breaker, reported |
The late levels are where the value is: three GOAT Builds between Levels 26 and 37 and, if the reports hold, a Cap Breaker at Level 40. All of them are gone once Season 2 ends, so plan your hours around reaching Level 37 at least.
MyTEAM
- Level 1: Diamond Jason Kidd
- Level 40: Pixel Cut Karl-Anthony Towns
- Premier Exchange: trade cards from your collection for roster upgrades such as Pixel Cut Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Pro Pass and Hall of Fame Pass
The Season 2 Pro Pass adds 40 premium levels with a Halloween theme. 2K lists these rewards:
| Track | Level | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Unlocked on purchase | - | Jack-O'-Lantern Scarecrow Costume, Headhunter Mask, 94 OVR Pascal Siakam and a Pro Pass Pack |
| Premium | 3 | Jack-O'-Lantern Facepaint |
| Premium | 12 | 'Sir C.C.', the Cleveland Cavaliers mascot outfit |
| Premium | 18 | Fire Face Body Mod |
| Premium | 30 | 'G-Wiz', the Washington Wizards mascot outfit |
| Premium | 40 | Pro Pass Pixel Cut Karl-Anthony Towns |
Both passes are sold separately and need the base game, an internet connection and an NBA 2K account. 2K's announcement doesn't list prices, but RealSport101 reports the Pro Pass at 9.99 US dollars and the Hall of Fame Pass at 19.99 US dollars. The Hall of Fame Pass adds a 15% XP boost for the Season, 10 Level Skips and 15,000 VC, with more VC spread through its premium track. Check the store page before you buy. A Season 1 pass doesn't carry over: each Season has its own.
For MyCAREER players, the Season 2 Pro Pass is mostly cosmetic. Its biggest gameplay reward, the Level 40 Karl-Anthony Towns card, is a MyTEAM item. If you only play The City, the free ladder holds the rewards that matter most this Season: the GOAT Builds and the Level 40 Cap Breaker. The Hall of Fame Pass is the one pass with a gameplay case for MyCAREER players, because its XP boost and Level Skips get you to those levels sooner.
What are GOAT Builds in NBA 2K27?
GOAT Builds are MyPLAYER builds modelled on all-time great players that go past the standard physical and attribute caps of the MyPLAYER Builder. You keep full access to Badges, Cap Breakers and the rest of your progression, so a GOAT Build progresses like any other build. It just starts from a higher ceiling.
GOAT Builds unlock in three ways:
- In the MyPLAYER Builder from day one. 2K's launch list includes Klay Thompson, Carmelo Anthony, Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard.
- On the Season 2 ladder. Dirk Nowitzki at Level 33, with Magic Johnson at Level 26 and Kobe Bryant at Level 37 according to reward-track reports.
- Through long-term milestones. Some GOAT Builds are reported to unlock at high REP tiers or after a set number of Lifetime Challenges, which makes them the hardest to earn.
GOAT Builds aren't sold for VC. Base stats and animations are fixed to the template, while Cap Breakers and Takeovers stay open to customise.
A few practical points:
- Pick a GOAT Build that fits how you already play. A higher cap doesn't help a shooter who wants a post build, or the other way round.
- Plan your Cap Breakers. GOAT Builds keep Cap Breaker access, so a Cap Breaker spent on a GOAT Build pushes an already raised ceiling.
- A new build means a new grind. OVR, badges and Build Specialization progress belong to each build, so a GOAT Build starts its own climb. The NBA 2K27 MyCAREER guide covers that progression in order.
What else is new in Season 2
- Sunset Beach returns to The City, remastered.
- Crew Divisions pay more. Every Crew Divisions game gets double Crew XP on the rewards track and a 25% REP boost. If REP is one of your goals this Season, this is the best place to earn it.
- Crew HQ plays at REC difficulty, while the Squad Showdown Kiosk keeps competitive settings for private matches.
- Five new 2K Beats mixes, including one curated by Tyrese Haliburton and Space Jam 30th anniversary content.
What Patch 2.0 changed
Patch 2.0 arrived just before Season 2. The notes are long, but these MyCAREER changes matter most for Season 2:
- The Physicals Build Specialization is easier. 2K lowered the requirements for tiers 7 and 9 of the Physicals track.
- Broken quests can progress again. Rebirth, MyPOINTS Accelerator, Workout Warrior, GOAT Skills and other special quests can start progressing again for players whose save data was corrupted or lost.
- Boosts last longer in Squad Showdown. Gatorade and Skill Boosts are no longer used up in Squad Showdown kiosk matches.
- Progress is easier to track. Badge Accelerators and endorsement progress now show on the postgame Recap screen.
- MyCAREER Eras saves now run a full 25-year career, moving across eras instead of stopping.
What reset when Season 2 started
2K's rule is short: Season progress and rewards reset at the end of each Season. Here is what that meant on October 16:
| Reset | Stayed |
|---|---|
| Your Season level, back to Level 0 on the new 40-level ladder | Your MyPLAYER builds and their OVR |
| Season XP | Your VC balance |
| Season 1 rewards you reached but didn't claim | Your REP tier, which runs on its own track |
| The Season 1 Pro Pass and Hall of Fame Pass tracks | Rewards you had already claimed, such as cosmetics and applied Cap Breakers |
| Season 1 limited events and their rewards | MyTEAM cards and MT you already own |
If a Season 1 reward is missing, it was most likely reached but never claimed before the reset. Unclaimed ladder rewards don't move to the next Season.
How to level fast in Season 2
The first weeks of a Season are when XP goes furthest, because almost every level unlocks something.
- Do the daily and weekly challenges first. They are the XP you can only collect that day or week.
- Play Crew Divisions if you play with a crew. The 25% REP boost and double Crew XP make it the most efficient mode for players who want REP alongside Season levels.
- Watch for double XP and 2XREP events. Season 1 ran several 2XREP weekends. Save your longest sessions for those.
- Play with people you trust to finish games. Quits and long queues cost more Season time than losses do.
- Decide on the Pro Pass after a week, not on day one. It only pays off if you reach the high levels. Buy it once your first week shows you will keep the pace to Level 40.
For how the Season ladder compares with other VC sources, see the NBA 2K27 VC guide.
When you can't reach Level 33 or 40 in time
Most players miss the late ladder rewards because a Season lasts only about seven weeks, not because the ladder is hard. If you want the GOAT Builds at Levels 26 to 37 or the Level 40 Cap Breaker and won't have the hours, BoostingXP's NBA 2K27 Season Level boost plays the levels on your account by hand. It covers the Season ladder only: Pro Pass rewards still need the pass on your account, and the levels must be finished before Season 2 closes.
If a Cap Breaker for your new build is the goal, the NBA 2K27 Cap Breakers boost covers that directly.
