Dota 2 MMR Boosting: Everything You Should Know
Dota 2 ranks players by MMR, and the medal on your profile - Herald through Divine, then Immortal - is a band drawn across that rating. Every ranked win adds MMR and every loss takes it away, so an MMR boost is a set of ranked wins aimed at a target.
BoostingXP Dota 2 MMR boosting takes your account from its current MMR to the one you choose, playing the position you pick.
One MMR, Five Positions
Dota used to rate core and support play separately, but an account now has a single MMR whatever role it plays. What you choose instead is the position the booster plays: Safe Lane, Mid Lane, Hard Lane (offlane), Soft Support or Hard Support.
Pick the position you normally queue for if you want the account's role history to stay consistent.
Why Dota Games Cannot Be Rushed
A Dota match commonly runs thirty-five to fifty minutes, and cannot be conceded early in the way a round-based game can. A boost of a given MMR gap therefore takes materially longer in real hours than the same nominal gap in a shooter.
Draft matters as much as execution. Games are frequently decided before the first creep wave by a draft that has no answer to an enemy line-up, which is why boosters prioritise flexible heroes over comfort picks.
What Affects the Order
- The position to be played - Safe Lane, Mid Lane, Hard Lane, Soft Support or Hard Support
- Your current MMR and your target
- Region, which changes both queue times and drafting habits
- Optional Priority Order for faster completion
- Optional Play with Booster if you want to keep control of the account
Behavior Score and Account Condition
Dota 2 also tracks Behavior and Communication scores, and a low score places an account into lower-priority matchmaking with worse teammates. If your account is in that state, raising MMR is harder than the rating alone suggests.
If you know your behavior score is low, mention it when ordering so the work can be planned realistically.
Dota 2 Medals and the MMR Behind Them
You can set an order by medal or by typing an MMR value - the calculator converts one into the other using the bands below. Each medal from Herald to Ancient has five stars of 154 MMR; Divine stars are 200 MMR wide, and Immortal starts at 5,620.

Using the MMR Fields
If you know your exact rating, type it into the Current MMR box rather than picking the nearest medal: the medal selector moves to match, and the order starts from your real number instead of the bottom of a star. The - and + buttons step the value by 500 MMR at a time, which is the quickest way to price out a larger climb before fine-tuning it.
Star 1 is the bottom of every medal and star 5 the top, so Divine 1 is a lower target than Divine 5. Valve has moved these bands before; if the in-game medal and the number you type ever disagree, go by your in-game MMR and mention it in the order chat.
Which Dota 2 Service Fits Your Account?
An MMR target is not always the right order. The five Dota 2 services cover different starting points: see the Win Boost, Calibration Boost, Low Priority Boost and Unrated Boost pages for the details of each.
| Your situation |
Service |
What you buy |
| You want a specific rating or medal |
MMR Boost |
A climb from your current MMR to a target, in the position you choose |
| You need ranked wins, not a number |
Win Boost |
A set number of ranked wins, priced by your medal |
| Your account has not calibrated yet |
Calibration Boost |
Calibration matches, sold one by one |
| You are stuck in the low priority queue |
Low Priority Boost |
Low priority games played until you are back in ranked matchmaking |
| You have not unlocked ranked play |
Unrated Boost |
Unranked hours toward the ranked requirement, with no effect on MMR |
Sharing the Account During a Climb
Only one person can be in a Dota match on an account at a time, and a single game can take most of an hour. If you want to play on the account yourself while the order is open, say so in the order chat with the times you have in mind, so a match is not started just before you sit down.
If you would rather not step away at all, Play with Booster keeps you on your own account: you queue as a party of two and the booster plays alongside you instead of on your account.
Choosing the Position to Be Played
The position you pick decides what the booster plays in every game of the order, and it shows in your match history. Pick the one you normally queue for unless you have a reason to change it.
- Safe Lane (position 1) - the hard carry, farming the safe lane and taking over late
- Mid Lane (position 2) - the solo mid, playing for early levels and map pressure
- Hard Lane (position 3) - the offlane, a durable core that starts fights and soaks the enemy carry
- Soft Support (position 4) - the roaming support, ganking and fighting from the first minutes
- Hard Support (position 5) - the lane support for your carry, warding and saving teammates
